VG-420: Rust Converter

DESCRIPTION

Rust Converter is an organic complex liquid that chemically reacts with iron oxide on steel. It will not harm or affect the non-rusted surface of the steel but will penetrate and chemically convert the orange/red iron oxide corrosion (rust) on steel to a stable and non-active complex.  The converted rust will take on a blue/black appearance when converted.   The converted and non-active steel surface can then be top coated to seal out the elements and curtail future rust.

APPLICATION

Rust converter can be applied to rusted surfaces via dip, roller, brush or spray equipment.  On heavy scale or loose rust, wire brush the surface to allow the Rust Converter to reach the active rusty steel.   Only a light coating of rust converter is required to work, simply need to coat surface to make it damp.

  • Typically VG-420 takes between 25-45 minutes to convert surface rust and dry.
  • VG-420 Rust Converter is moisture activated so faster conversion will take place in higher humidity environments. Slighter longer periods of time or reapplication may be needed for heavy corrosion or pitted surfaces.
  • Brush away or blot up areas of puddling with wet towel and let dry before topcoating.
  • The converted surface may be topcoated with a wide variety of water based or solvent based paints, undercoating or rust preventative materials.  When topcoating, prep per the instructions of the topcoat material.
